Welcome
Welcome to Spirit of Hope!
We know that “welcome” can be a vague word, often accompanied by unspoken terms
and conditions. So allow us to get specific about our welcome:
We do our best to welcome everyone here, and we hope you will feel welcome too.
When we come to the celebration of Holy Communion, the table is open to all –
because, well, it’s not really our table. We believe that Christ is truly present in, with,
and under the elements of bread and wine, and that Christ has invited all people to
share in his love and the gift of salvation through this meal – and that includes you.
We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or can’t carry a note in a bucket.
You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke up, or just got out of jail. We
don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope, or haven’t been in church since little
Joey’s baptism. Trans or queer? You’re welcome here!
We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to
teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms, NASCAR dads,
noisy kids, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food eaters.
We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re
having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like “organized religion” –
we’ve been there too.
We welcome those who are inked, pierced, and both. We offer a special welcome to
those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down their throat as a kid,
are only here because grandma’s in town, or just got lost in traffic and wound up here by
mistake. We welcome tourists, seekers, doubters, bleeding hearts … and you! Come as
you are; we’re glad you’re here!
This is what we mean when we say, "Welcome!"
